If you’re looking for success – in any pursuit – there’s basically no better shortcut than reading great books. Finding a great author / mentor who has achieved what you want to achieve – and read their book.
It saves time and money and you can (hopefully) avoid many of the mistakes they most people will make.
Now if you’re looking for success in Network Marketing – there are so many great books out there. It’s almost impossible to recommend just the top 6 – because there are so many great books covering different aspects of Network Marketing. Books on scripts, books on business mindset, books on social media, books on personal development etc.
So rather than just try and give my favourite 6 books in total, I wanted to group them into the main categories I see people struggling with – and then the top book in each one.
So firstly – ‘What do I say?’ – one of the biggest challenges for people and the most commonly asked question. It stops so many people before they even start. People freeze out of fear of judgement or fear of messing up. Or they panic and verbally vomit over everyone – then wonder why people won’t answer their messages. So if that’s somewhere you struggle, there’s no better book on exactly what to say than Brian Carruther’s Book – Building an Empire. Also look at Go Pro by Eric Worre and anything by Tom ‘Big Al’ Schreiter.
Building on Social Media – the modern version of Brian’s book above is ‘I Dare You’ by Frazer Brookes. He is the King of Social Media training for Network Marketing and how to grow your business on Facebook / Instagram. So I can not recommend his book enough. Ray Higgdon also wrote a great book ‘Freakishly Effective Social Media for Network Marketing’ which is fantastic. Also – Jab Jab Jab Right Hook by Gary Vaynerchuk – doesn’t address building a Network Marketing business on Social Media directly, it is more general – but he divides the book up into each major platform and teaches you how to grow an audience and sell your product on each.
Then we come to Leadership. Network Marketing is a business of Leadership. Growing a huge team, helping people reach their goals, helping people believe in themselves more and stepping up to challenges. And there’s no better book on leadership than John Maxwell’s 5 Levels of Leadership. Like Gary V’s book above, not specifically Network Marketing, but it is my Bible. It is my go to whenever I’m stuck and can’t seem to reach the next level. It is up there with the most impactful books I have ever written. Seth Godin ‘Tribes’ – is also fantastic. Again, not directly about Network Marketing leadership, but how to build a culture and a tribe – which is exactly what we do.
Next up – Consistency? Is this an area you struggle in? Are you good for a week, then you fall off? Do you come out of an event super excited then burned out a week later? Then you need ‘The Compound Effect’ by Darren Hardy – amazing. Also check out Jeff Olsen’s ‘The Slight Edge’ and ‘High Performance Habits’ but Brendon Burchard. All 3 are great, all similar as well. I just prefer The Compound Effect slightly more above the others. But they all help you grow better habits – and successful people have better habits.
Our second last category – self sabotage. Are you guilty of this? There are things inside your head holding you back. Things that you may not even be aware of. But anytime you start to sniff success you start to make bad decisions and pull back to your ‘normal’. Then you need Rob Sperry’s second book ‘The Game of Conquering’. His first book – ‘The Game of Networking’ is great for the first category – what to say. This book is more specifically about getting out of our own victim story and living our conquering story. Also want to check out ‘The Big Leap’ by Gay Hendricks, ‘The Obstacle is the Way’ by Ryan Halliday and ‘The 4 Agreements’ by Don Miguel Ruiz.
Finally – Financial Freedom! The most exciting topic right? The thing that most people want at the end of the day. Now outside of our industry there are plenty of books about this – none more well known than Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. But there’s only one book inside the Network Marketing industry that shows you how to actually build a business, THEN, how to actually turn that leveraged income into residual and passive income – and that is ‘The Way Out’, which is my book.
I know, shamelessly plugging my own book here – but the reason I wrote it was because of exactly this – there are no other books teaching people what to do after they’ve started having success. We are great at helping people get started, great at giving them scripts and templates, great for talking systems and duplication – but is it any wonder why so many people start and then quit? Is it any wonder why so few people actually make proper residual income in Network Marketing – if we’re never teaching that. We get so caught up in the early skills that we forget to teach the latter skills – and that’s what’s really important. Because anyone can make money, few can keep it. And there’s no financial freedom if you can’t keep it.
So, if you are looking for a step by step roadmap for creating financial freedom through Network Marketing – grab our free copy of my book The Way Out here. I’m sure it will be the missing piece for you.
