Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy.
Really, more often than not, we are the ones who sabotage our own success.
Along the stages of building a Network Marketing business, challenges will present. At the start – it can be the negativity of others that stops a lot of us. As we build, it can be the frustration of people quitting, or joining a different company.
And whilst a lot of these are external issues – the biggest issues are actually internal. And these 3 P’s are the major ones.
Procrastination – Getting ready to get ready – the procrastinators fever dream. But no matter how much you read, how many videos you watch, how many motivational quotes you read – there are just some lessons that only experience can teach us. And if you never start – you’ll never get to learn them.
If you find yourself struggling with procrastination – think back to why you started Network Marketing. Think of the freedom goals you created in your mind. Then remember that the important task on your plate – is the exact thing you need to be doing right now. If you want to leave your workplace – think back to that when you don’t want to message 3 people. Or say out loud ‘spending more time with my kids isn’t important enough to me to follow-up with 3 people right now’. Confronting – but that’s the reality. They’re the conversations we need to be having in our own head every day if we want to change our life.
Perfectionism – A nicer sounding word; but really – it’s just a nicer way to say Procrastination. Spending (wasting) time getting everything perfect, instead of focussing on getting the task done. But the problems with perfectionism don’t end there. The reality is, perfectionism is a subjective term. It’s in the eye of the beholder. What I think is perfect is only relevant to me. What you think is perfect other people won’t. So waiting until you’re ‘perfect’ before you post your results, or waiting until you are a ‘perfect’ speaker before doing a FB LIVE – you’re focussing on you, instead of your network.
Our job is to help other people solve their problems. And the more problems we solve, the more money we make. And that means being willing to make mistakes and imperfect at times. Or a hot mess express in other words.
People Pleasing – So maybe on a technicality this is 2 P’s, but however you look at it, People Pleasing is a perfect way to ruin great business growth. The reality is, not everyone is going to support you. Not everyone is going to agree with your ideas. And the bigger the team you build, the higher chance that more people will disagree with you. But if you try and keep them happy – you start to alienate another group of people. So you try and keep them happy, and then another group of people will be upset.
Once you go down this rabbit hole, there’s no turning back. And you lose yourself in the dreaded ‘Management Mode’ – going from fire to fire trying to put things out, and forgetting that you have a business to take care of.
Now whilst I’m definitely not encouraging that you actively go out of your way to upset people – you will need to accept the reality that not everyone is going to stick with you forever. Not everyone is going to love every decision you make. But if you want to have a business, you have to always keep the vision ahead of the individual.
